Although UCLA was led by future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Waterfield, the Bruins still lost 27-7. It might have helped if they still had Jackie Robinson, who was named to the 1941 preseason All America team but withdrew from UCLA before the season due to financial difficulties (he is still mentioned inside).
